Knicks reportedly make expected offseason move with key young player

In an offseason full of questions for the New York Knicks, one of them has reportedly been answered. According to notable source Tommy Beer, New York has accepted Miles McBride’s $1.8 million player option for the 2023-24 season.

McBride hasn’t been a consistent rotation player. However, when on the court his presence has consistently been felt. There’s a chance that McBride could see an increase in minutes next season as the skillset he brings can be very valuable depending on the situation.

Knicks reportedly accept Miles McBride’s $1.8 million team option for 2023-24

This news shouldn’t come as a surprise. Regardless of whether or not the Knicks trade Miles McBride this offseason, picking up his option was clearly the right decision.

According to Beer, the Knicks are 20-5 in games where McBride plays 15 or more minutes. While a lot of these games were blowouts, hence why McBride was in to begin with, it’s still a rather telling stat on the impact that he has.

The only thing holding McBride back from being a consistent rotation player is his offense. Fans know what McBride is capable of on defense. However, his offense has left much to be desired since he was drafted. Through his first two seasons, McBride is shooting 33.7% from the field and 28.2% from three on 1.9 attempts per game.

Hopefully, McBride can make strides on offense this season. If so, the Knicks could either have an incredibly valuable trade piece or an elite guard defender off the bench. If he isn’t included in a trade, it’ll be exciting for fans to continue to watch him play in New York this upcoming season.
