The last shooting guard I am going to look at in my series of NY Knicks trade articles is Victor Oladipo. In order to be realistic about the required compensation for Victor Oladipo, we need to understand the market for him. But it doesn’t mean that I think the NY Knicks should pay it, just understand what it is. It’s up to you the fan to decide if you think it’s worth it. A good example is Gordon Hayward’s free agency. Most Knicks fans were on board with signing him until Charlotte came offering 4 years/$120M.

While Oladipo is considered the second-best shooting on the market after Bradley Beal, I don’t see Houston getting as many competitive offers for him as Buddy Hield and Evan Fournier’s teams will get for them. The main reason for that is the uncertainty of resigning Oladipo.

NY Knicks: Who’s The Competition For Oladipo?

Everyone knows that Victor Oladipo wants to play in a major market, so small market teams know he is just a rental for them. He reportedly already turned down an extension offer from the Houston Rockets. Then there is the money, he wants to get paid, especially after recovering from a career-threatening quad injury at age 26.  For those reasons, he is a riskier acquisition than Hield or Fournier. With that said, let’s take a look at what the best offers might be for Oladipo in order to understand what the Knicks would need to offer.

<div class="details"> <div class="team-name">Rockets Get</div> <div class="info">Tim Hardaway Jr.</div> <div class="info">Tyrell Terry</div> <div class="info">2021 2nd Rd Pick</div> </div> </div> <div class="separator"></div> <div class="team b"> <div class="logo"><img src=https://dailyknicks.com/2021/03/23/ny-knicks-3-best-trade-offers-victor-oladipo/"https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/fetch/w_75,h_75,c_fill,g_auto,f_auto/https%3A%2F%2Fcdn.fansided.com%2Flogos%2Fnba%2Fmavericks.png"/>
<div class="details"> <div class="team-name">Mavericks Get</div> <div class="info">Victor Oladipo</div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <p>The Mavericks would offer Tim Hardaway Jr. who is on an expiring contract, rookie guard Tyrell Terry, and a 2021 2nd round pick. While Hardaway is the better player, the true asset in the deal is Terry. As most Knick fans remember, Hardaway wasn&#8217;t as good&nbsp;for the orange and blue as he&#8217;s been for Dallas. The reason is simple, in Dallas he plays with Luka Doncic. Even with improved offensive numbers, Hardaway knew better than to opt-out of the last year of his contract which pays him <strong>$19M</strong>. It&#8217;s for the same reason he was included in the Kristaps Porzingis (KP) trade as a salary dump, at best he is a fringe starter on a good team. The Rockets would only take Hardaway back because he&#8217;s on an expiring contract.</p> <p>As for draft capital, Dallas doesn&#8217;t have much left since the Knicks own two of their next three 1st round picks. It will look really bad if this year&#8217;s 1st round draft pick turns into a lottery ticket for the Knicks. So the best they can offer is a 2nd round pick this year. They don&#8217;t control their 1st or 2nd round pick in the covet 2023 (double) draft, so they can&#8217;t be offered at this time.</p> <p>As for the young prospect, Tyrell Terry was projected to be a 1st round pick that went 31st overall, in the 2020 draft. The Stanford product needs to grow into his body in order to be an effective NBA player, he only weighs 160Ibs on a 6&#8217;2&#8243; frame. But his college stats are impressive as he averaged 14.7 ppg on 40.8% three-point percentage and 89.1% from the free-throw line.</p> <p>But what is encouraging has been his performance in the G-League&nbsp;<a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2021/03/23/ny-knicks-3-best-trade-offers-victor-oladipo/"https://thesmokingcuban.com/2021/02/21/mavericks-tyrell-terry-diverse-g-league/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">where the Smoking Cuban reported</a>&nbsp;that he has proven he can run the point and play off the ball as a spot-up shooter. They have compared him to former Maverick Seth Curry. While I don&#8217;t think the trade will happen, as I don&#8217;t see Houston wanting to help their in-state rival, it does serve as a baseline for what other teams will have to offer.</p> <div class="next-slide slider"> <a class="next-slide-btn" style="background: #007BC1" data-track="shortcode" data-track-action="next-slide-shortcode" href=https://dailyknicks.com/2021/03/23/ny-knicks-3-best-trade-offers-victor-oladipo/"#"> <span class="title">Next:</span>&nbsp;Atlantic division rival wants Oladipo </a> </div><!—pageview_candidate—><hr id="pagebreak"><div id="attachment_112781" class="wp-caption aligncenter"> <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2021/03/23/ny-knicks-3-best-trade-offers-victor-oladipo/"https://dailyknicks.com/wp-content/uploads/imagn-images/2017/07/14172991.jpeg">"Knicks"&#8220;The 3 Best trade offers for Evan Fournier&#8221;</a>, the Sixers are legitimate contenders for the NBA title. They are probably smelling blood now that <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2021/03/23/ny-knicks-3-best-trade-offers-victor-oladipo/"https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/31102023/frustrated-lebron-james-leaves-home-game-los-angeles-lakers-first-half-right-ankle-injury">LeBron James is hurt</a> and out indefinitely, joining Anthony Davison on the shelf. After suffering through the &#8220;Trust the Process&#8221; years and then seeing the team take a step back last season after Jimmy Butler left unexpectedly. The Sixers have bounced back this season thanks to Daryl Morey&#8217;s personnel moves and Doc Rivers&#8217; coaching.</p> <p>While the Sixers are an elite defensive team, this is still an offensive league, so they need to find more firepower. Philly needs another ballhandling playmaker to ignite their offense. Ben Simmons can get downhill, but scoring is not his game. Joel Embiid needs help closing games by having someone that can create a shot when the offense gets bogged down. That is why the Sixers will be in discussions for every marquee wing on the market.</p> <p>The 76ers have reason to believe that Oladipo would resign with them. Philadelphia is a big market team that plays not too far from Oladipo&#8217;s hometown in Maryland. They have star players, a respected coach and front office, as well as an ownership group that will spend money. Below is what I believe will be the 76ers best offer for Olapido.</p> <div class="fs-shortcode" data-type="Trade" data-team-ids="[169,93]" data-team-gets="[[&quot;Danny Green&quot;,&quot;Isaiah Joe&quot;,&quot;Tony Bradley&quot;,&quot;2021 1st Rd Pick&quot;],[&quot;Victor Oladipo&quot;]]" > <div class="playertrade remove-native-227"> <div class="trade"> <div class="team a"> <div class="logo"><img src=https://dailyknicks.com/2021/03/23/ny-knicks-3-best-trade-offers-victor-oladipo/"https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/fetch/w_75,h_75,c_fill,g_auto,f_auto/https%3A%2F%2Fcdn.fansided.com%2Flogos%2Fnba%2Frockets.png"/>
