The time has come for the New York Knicks to hold 2022 Media Day, which will take place on Monday, Sept. 26. After an offseason that included signing point guard Jalen Brunson in free agency and missing out on All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell, the Knicks will likely be embracing the youth on the roster in 2022-23.
With New York set to face Memphis on Oct. 19, fans will first get to hear from players and coaches on Media Day. After signing Brunson, the team held a season-ticket holder event that was led by MSG Network’s Bill Pidto. The event stirred up controversy due to the media not being invited, and the same thing happened again after RJ Barrett spoke about his four-year extension at another season-ticket holder event with MSG Network’s Monica McNutt.
Soon, the media will get to ask the questions that they’ve been sitting on throughout the summer, which will surely range from the Donovan Mitchell saga, the league’s ongoing tampering investigation, and the players that were reportedly included in trade proposals.
Knicks fans, it’s time to get ready.
Here are 3 burning questions that fans want answered during Knicks’ 2022 Media Day
3: Does Julius Randle appear to be all in on the Knicks?
If you’re reading this, there’s at least an 80% chance that you’re still impatiently waiting to get the notification that Julius Randle has been traded. After his stellar season in 2020-21, Randle fell off in a big way in 2021-22, which has caused a large part of the fan base to call for the Knicks to move on from him.
After being booed in MSG last season, Randle reacted to cheers from fans with a thumbs down, but with that in the past, the forward recently left an encouraging comment on Instagram that was directed towards fans.
In Ian Begley’s recent mailbag for SNY, he predicted that there’s a 40% chance that Randle will be traded before the start of the season. Again, that’s an outcome that most fans are hoping for, but for now, it appears as if Randle’s in New York’s plans for 2022-23.
Hopefully, Randle enjoyed the offseason and will be able to get off to a better start this season rather than picking up from where he left off in 2021-22. As long as he’s on the Knicks’ roster, fans should want him to be at his best, not just for himself, but for the team, too.
He reiterated at the end of last season that he wanted to remain in New York, but for the first time in months, fans will get to hear from Randle himself.

<h3>2: Who will be the Knicks’ starting shooting guard?</h3>
<p>This is a question that Knicks fans have been pondering throughout the offseason, especially after Quentin Grimes <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/09/25/3-burning-questions-knicks-fans-answered-media-day/"https://dailyknicks.com/2022/07/19/3-knicks-takeaways-2022-nba-summer-league/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">put on a stellar performance</a> in Summer League. Ian Begley reported that there were concerns about a Jalen Brunson-Evan Fournier backcourt, which has led many to believe that Grimes will be starting at the two for New York. Unlike Fournier, Grimes is a force on the defensive end.</p>
<p>On top of that, Fournier’s name was caught up in Donovan Mitchell trade rumors, while Grimes was reportedly off limits. As Begley noted in his mailbag, the Knicks need shooting, so it might not be the best idea for the team to part ways with the 29-year-old just yet, but Begley included Grimes in what he believes will be New York’s starting lineup.</p>
<p>On Media Day, Tom Thibodeau isn’t going to outright reveal who will be starting for the Knicks, but he’s reportedly fond of Grimes. One of the coach’s answers may hint at who’s projected to be the starting shooting guard, though.</p>
<p>On Oct. 19, let’s all hope that it’ll be Grimes who will be in the starting lineup with Fournier coming off the bench.</p>

<h3>1: Is Tom Thibodeau going to prioritize the Knicks’ youth?</h3>
<p>This is something that fans have been calling for, and with New York not acquiring Mitchell, fans want to see the <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/09/25/3-burning-questions-knicks-fans-answered-media-day/"https://dailyknicks.com/2022/09/11/knicks-prioritize-youth-movement-rebuild-2022-23/">Knicks’ younger players</a> receive more time on the court. There’s Quentin Grimes, who, as mentioned, should be in the starting lineup, but what about other players such as Obi Toppin and Immanuel Quickley?</p>
<p>Outside of Randle’s issues last season, a large part of the reason why fans want to see him gone is so that Toppin will be allowed to slide into the starting lineup. During the 24-year-old’s first two seasons in the league, he was <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/09/25/3-burning-questions-knicks-fans-answered-media-day/"https://dailyknicks.com/2022/05/05/knicks-stunt-obi-toppin-growth-julius-randle-stays/">overshadowed by Randle</a>, but at the end of the 2021-22 season, Toppin proved that he deserves more time on the court.</p>
<p>According to reports, Quickley is going to receive <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/09/25/3-burning-questions-knicks-fans-answered-media-day/"https://www.sny.tv/articles/knicks-what-we-know-rotation-decisions-2022-23-season" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an increased role</a> this season, and like Toppin, he put on a show at the end of the year. If that proves to be true, the Knicks would greatly benefit. However, many still have reservations about Tom Thibodeau, especially after he opted to put Alec Burks at point guard over Quickley last season, but for now, it seems as if New York is trending in the right direction.</p>
<p>In case it isn’t clear: Play the kids! The Knicks aren’t going to sit atop the Eastern Conference, and will likely end up fighting for a spot in the play-in tournament, so there’s no harm in giving some of the team’s younger players more run. After all, playing time is a key part of development. Don’t let us down (again), Tom.</p>
