One thing to note also is that no matter who the Knicks sign, trades will have to be made. New York has a ton of rotational players that are deserving of minutes, so there will definitely be some moves.
Kemba Walker is certainly gone, Alec Burks will probably get moved, Julius Randle could very well get traded, and Nerlens Noel could also be moved. I assume not all four of these guys will get traded, but if Randle is not traded, there’s a very good chance that the Knicks will trade Obi Toppin.
Whoever New York signs, it will be a reaction to the trades that the front office makes this offseason.
There are many players that the Knicks could go after. And say one of those players is a star, such as Donovan Mitchell or Zion Williamson. If they acquire one of those two, multiple players will go in the deal, so New York would need to sign some bargain free agents.
Essentially, this article is a mix of free agents the Knicks could replace their traded players with or sign to supplement new players on the roster. So, with these two situations in mind, if there is roster turnover, here are some under the radar free agent options for New York.
New York Knicks in their offseason, free agency is getting closer and closer. It’s time to look at some under the radar free agent options that the Knicks can pursue.

Jalen Brunson is on almost every New York fans’ mind at the moment. A week ago, I most likely would have had Tyus Jones on this list, but <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/05/21/3-radar-free-agent-options-knicks-pursue/"https://dailyknicks.com/2022/05/12/new-york-knicks-potential-free-agent-target-tyus-jones-stock-rises-ja-morant-absence/">Jones is certainly on everyone’s radar with his free agency stock growing.

What lesser-known players should the New York Knicks focus on in free agency?

Another player who could be out the door is Mitchell Robinson, <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/05/21/3-radar-free-agent-options-knicks-pursue/"https://dailyknicks.com/2022/05/13/knicks-cant-afford-lose-mitchell-robinson-free-agency-offseason/">which I explicitly have said would be a detrimental mistake. New York should keep him, however, he may get overpaid, so in this piece, we will look at one big man in particular who the Knicks should be ready to make a move on.

3. Frank Ntilikina

BRING. FRANK. HOME. I said throughout all of last season that I would have preferred Frank Ntilikina to be the starting point guard over Elfrid Payton.

And when Ntilikina got consistent minutes, he was a very good defender who had great chemistry with his teammates, while I swear Payton had beef with RJ Barrett because of the number of times he would pass the ball to Randle when Barrett was wide open. It’s safe to say that I’m not over Payton’s painful inability to play well at the NBA level.

Ntilikina <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/05/21/3-radar-free-agent-options-knicks-pursue/"https://thesmokingcuban.com/posts/frank-ntilikina-defense-dallas-mavericks-playoffs-game-6-suns" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was HUGE for the Mavericks in their Game 6 victory over the Suns in the conference semifinals, playing aggressive defense on Devin Booker that affected him.

Ntilikina, meanwhile, could have been doing this on Trae Young in last year’s playoffs, which maybe could have led to not losing 4-1 to a Hawks team that the Knicks dominated in the 2020-2021 regular season.

He recovered 4 steals in 20 minutes in Game 6 against Phoenix while also having a block to his name. Ntilikina’s been a defensive asset for a Mavericks team that knows how to get the most out of their players because Jason Kidd is an excellent coach.

Ntilikina was loved by most New York fans and had great relationships with the players, specifically Barrett. He and Ntilikina would literally have a foot race across the court before every game, and apparently, they spoke French to each other on and off the court.

The No. 8 pick<a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/05/21/3-radar-free-agent-options-knicks-pursue/"https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/19692162/2017-nba-draft-new-york-knicks-pick-no-8-frank-ntilikina-french-guard" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> in the 2017 draft clearly had a presence with the Knicks, and New York would be wise to bring him back this summer.

2. Kyle Anderson

If the Knicks are to make a trade and need forwards, then they should attempt to sign Kyle Anderson. Anderson is a New York native and a glue guy for the Grizzlies, and he could definitely help the Knicks fight their way back to the playoffs.

Anderson averaged 7.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists in Memphis this past season while playing solid defense. He was tied for the best defensive rating on the Grizzlies at 106 with Jaren Jackson Jr., who’s known to be an elite defender.

The major drawback with Anderson is that he can be a streaky shooter and has never been great from behind the arc. But let’s say that New York makes a trade for someone like Mitchell and the front office needs to fill the roster with some role players, Anderson would be a great addition.

Anderson’s ability to be a secondary playmaker in the Grizzlies’ offense is something very promising. The Knicks obviously have some questions to be answered at the point guard slot, so having many above-average passers on the team certainly would not hurt.

All in all, signing Anderson only makes sense if New York trades for a star and would need to fill depth at the forward position. His defense and playmaking will be useful wherever he goes, and he could definitely benefit a Knicks team that lacks both playmaking and perimeter defense.
