As the 2022-23 season continues to creep closer, the NBA officially released all 30 regular season schedules on Wednesday. The New York Knicks will open up the season on Oct. 19 at Memphis, which will be one of the team’s 16 televised games.
The season has the potential to be New York’s best in a decade. With the addition of Jalen Brunson, as well as the trade rumors surrounding Donovan Mitchell, the Knicks could find their way back into the playoffs.
With a loaded Eastern Conference, the team has their work cut out for them, but in almost exactly two months, fans will get to watch the Knicks officially take the court for the first time since Apr. 10.
And after looking at the schedule, there are five games in particular that fans should be sure to not miss. Go ahead and mark your calendars.
Here are 5 Knicks games that fans need to circle on their calendars for the 2022-23 season
5: Nov. 15 – Knicks vs. Jazz
Now, you might be wondering why this game is relevant whenever Donovan Mitchell is still on the Utah Jazz with three guaranteed years left on his contract. And when you learn that the game will take place in Utah, you might be even more curious.
Well, the NBA knew what it was doing by making this Knicks-Jazz matchup nationally televised on TNT. The date will mark New York’s first time on TNT for 2022-23, and the team’s third nationally televised game of the season.
Meanwhile, the Jazz have one nationally televised game for the entirety of the season, and it seems to be no coincidence that it’ll take place against the Knicks. It appears as if the league is betting on a Spida trade to happen because why else would a game in Utah in mid-November be of any importance?
Knicks-Jazz could end up being Donovan Mitchell’s return to Utah
This game will be a must-watch not only because it could end up being Mitchell’s return to Utah, but New York fans could get to see players such as Obi Toppin play for the Jazz. And if a trade happens, you’ll need to mark Feb. 11 on your calendar as well, because that’s when Utah will be at Madison Square Garden.
This nationally televised matchup less than a month into the season has the potential to be very, very exciting.

4: Jan. 28 – Knicks vs. Nets

For the week of Jan. 23, the NBA has created a rivalry week that will feature 11 nationally televised games. One of those games will be Knicks versus the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center on Jan. 28 at 5:30 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on ABC.

This match-up has the potential to deliver, but it’ll largely depend <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/08/17/5-must-watch-knicks-games-2022-23-nba-regular-season-schedule/"https://dailyknicks.com/2022/08/09/latest-kevin-durant-report-proves-knicks-superior-nets/">on what happens with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. If the Nets lose them both, the game won’t be that entertaining to fans outside of the city, but because it’s Brooklyn, it’ll still be a must-watch for Knicks fans.

The Knicks will face the Nets as part of the NBA’s rivalry week in January

In 2021-22, New York went 0-4 against Brooklyn, so the Knicks will have the chance to redeem themselves in 2022-23. The game in mid-January will mark the second time that New York will square off against Brooklyn, with the first contest taking place on Nov. 9 across the river, which will be televised on ESPN,

Rivalry week is an interesting concept, and based on the slate of games that’ll be happening that week, the other 10 games will be a must-watch as well, but if you can’t watch them all, be sure to tune in on Saturday night.

3: Oct. 21 – Knicks vs. Pistons

It must be a total coincidence that the Knicks will be playing their home opener against the Detroit Pistons on Oct. 21, right? It was thought that New York would trade up to draft Jaden Ivey in June, but Detroit selected him at No. 5 and refused to let go of him. The game won’t be nationally televised, but if you can make it to MSG that night, you need to go.

The Knicks will either be coming off their first win or loss of the season, but hopefully a win over the Pistons will put New York at 2-0 on the year. Jaden Ivey will make his debut with Detroit on Oct. 19 against Paolo Banchero and the Orlando Magic, but the game two nights later will allow for Knicks fans to get their first in-person look at the guard.

The Knicks will go up against some familiar foes in their home opener

Lost in the Ivey hype are Kevin Knox, Alec Burks, and Nerlens Noel. The latter two were traded to Detroit to clear cap space for New York to sign Jalen Brunson in free agency, while Knox was traded to the Atlanta Hawks earlier this year as <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/08/17/5-must-watch-knicks-games-2022-23-nba-regular-season-schedule/"https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/33057458/atlanta-hawks-trade-cam-reddish-new-york-knicks-kevin-knox-1st-round-pick-sources-say#:~:text=The%20Knicks%20sent%20forward%20Kevin,York%20also%20waived%20Ryan%20Arcidiacono." target="_blank" rel="noopener">part of the Cam Reddish deal. The Knicks selected Knox with the No. 9 pick in 2018, and here we are four years later, and the 23-year-old is now on his third team.

New York’s home opener is going to be highly anticipated as is, but the game being against Detroit makes it that much more exciting. The Knicks need to go out and get a win in Brunson’s home debut.

2: Dec. 7 – Knicks vs. Hawks

New York’s fourth game on ESPN for the 2022-23 season will take place against Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks in MSG on Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. ET. It’ll be the second time that New York will host Atlanta, but the first match-up won’t be televised.

The Knicks will have more than Young to worry about since the Hawks traded for Dejounte Murray at the end of June. And since being traded, Murray has been <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/08/17/5-must-watch-knicks-games-2022-23-nba-regular-season-schedule/"https://dailyknicks.com/2022/08/09/knicks-fans-glad-players-treat-game-dejounte-murray/">embracing the villain role, so it seems as if Young is already rubbing off on him.

In the regular season, Young has a 3-10 record against New York. As you all know, the Hawks got the best of the Knicks in the first round of the playoffs in 2021, which is what created a rivalry between the two teams.

The Knicks will face Trae Young and Dejounte Murray on national television on Dec. 7

New York needs to go out and remind Trae Young why Atlanta didn’t get a Christmas Day game in the weeks leading up to the holiday. The Hawks may not be making their way back to MSG on Dec. 25, but at least they’ll still get to experience the holiday spirit in the city.

The game isn’t only a must-watch, but it’s also a must-win solely because it’s against Atlanta. Just please don’t give Young another reason to gloat.

<a class="next-slide-btn" style="background: #007BC1" data-track="shortcode" data-track-action="next-slide-shortcode" href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/08/17/5-must-watch-knicks-games-2022-23-nba-regular-season-schedule/"#"> Next: The best day in the NBA

1: Dec. 25 – Knicks vs. Sixers

Christmas isn’t the same without a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden, and luckily fans will get to watch New York play on Dec. 25 at noon against the Philadelphia Sixers on ESPN. The game will mark the second time of the season that the Knicks will be going up against the Sixers with the first contest taking place on Nov. 4 in Philadelphia.

The Sixers, led by Joel Embiid and James Harden, will be in pursuit of their first title since 1983. Harden’s been praised for the pay cut that he took so that Philadelphia could have more space to sign additional players, so it’d be the perfect present if New York were to spoil the Sixers’ holiday.

Knicks-Sixers will be the first game played on Christmas Day

Many have <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/08/17/5-must-watch-knicks-games-2022-23-nba-regular-season-schedule/"https://dailyknicks.com/2022/08/17/new-york-knicks-playing-christmas-day/">complained about the Knicks getting a Christmas Day game, but New York’s the league’s most valuable franchise and always draws in viewers. And as mentioned before, with a Donovan Mitchell trade possibly taking place before the 2022-23 season, Knicks-Sixers could end up being quite the start to the NBA’s Christmas Day slate.

Be sure to not miss the best day of the regular season. And if you can make it to MSG to catch the action, there’s the chance that RJ Barrett will give you one of the best gifts of all.

After what has felt like a never-ending offseason, the Knicks will tip off in exactly 63 days. Let’s go!
