In the first matchup since the Eastern Conference Semifinals, the Knicks will host the Heat on Nov. 24 in their second game of the In-Season Tournament. Miami isn’t known as a regular season team, but the Heat should try to be competitive in this matchup because it’s part of the NBA In-Season Tournament.
By the time the day after Thanksgiving rolls around, maybe Damian Lillard will be on Miami’s roster. Given that there’s been zero news on the Dame trade front, it doesn’t seem likely, but it is still possible. You can bet that if Lillard is playing for the Heat at this point, he’ll want his first time in the Garden representing Miami to be a fond memory, not remembered as a loss.
The Heat lost key players from its historic NBA Finals run as Gabe Vincent signed with the Lakers in free agency and Max Strus signed with the Cavaliers. While that should be good news for New York, it’s been proven it doesn’t matter who plays for Miami, as Erik Spoelstra can make the most ordinary player look like a star.
Beating the Heat on ESPN won’t change the fact Miami stood in the way of New York making it to the Eastern Conference Finals, but it would be a good consolation prize.
the 2023-24 NBA schedule is here. After a successful 2022-23 season that saw the New York Knicks make it past the first round of the playoffs for the first time in a decade, the NBA awarded the team 25 nationally televised games, including games broadcast on NBA TV.

Within the first week of the regular season, the Knicks will play three games on national television. It’ll all start with a banger of a matchup on Opening Night against a hated division rival team that should still have a sour taste in their mouths from their losses against New York toward the end of last season.

It might be time-consuming to circle all 82 games on your calendar, but these five nationally televised contests should be circled and highlighted.

5 most important national TV games on New York Knicks’ schedule

5: Knicks vs. Mavericks, Feb. 8 on TNT

Maybe the Knicks can give Mark Cuban a video tribute ahead of the Mavericks’ Feb. 8 visit to the Garden, all to thank Cuban for essentially gifting Jalen Brunson to New York. If it wasn’t for Brunson (and Cuban), the Knicks likely wouldn’t have made it to the semifinals.

Honestly, the TNT matchup will be a show between Brunson and Luka Doncic. Dallas re-signed Kyrie Irving this offseason, but considering that the game will take play in early February, maybe the point guard would’ve already requested a trade at that point in the season. That isn’t a joke.

Dallas drafted Dereck Lively II in June and made a series of strong free agency moves, including bringing back three-point shooter Seth Curry and signing Grant Williams. The 2023-24 Mavericks should be much better than the 2022-23 version, but hopefully, they’ll hit a wall in New York on Feb. 8.

Will Brunson be able to beat his former team at MSG for the first time since signing with the Knicks last offseason? Let’s hope so!

3: Knicks at Sixers, Jan. 5 on ESPN

Will January be Joel Embiid’s last full month in Philadelphia? By the time the calendar turns to Jan. 5, James Harden will still be on the Sixers’ roster or with a new team such as the Clippers.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2023/08/18/5-most-important-national-tv-games-new-york-knicks-schedule/2/"https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/38180876/76ers-ending-trade-talks-james-harden-sources-say" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Philadelphia ended trade talks regarding Harden and plan for the guard to show up at training camp. Still, the next day, Harden called Daryl Morey a “liar” at an Adidas event in China. Harden has no intention of playing for the Sixers again, so unless a trade happens, a training camp holdout seems to be on the way.

When New York visits Philadelphia soon after the start of the new year, the Sixers will have a pretty good idea of how the rest of the 2023-24 season could go. Point blank, if Harden is either not playing or no longer a member of the team, Embiid could be contemplating a trade at this point in the season.

Embiid might’ve been trolling when he said he wanted to win a championship with the Sixers or another team, but winning is still his goal. A lot can happen between now and January, and maybe this game will be the final time the Knicks face a Sixers team that features Embiid, as the next time the two teams meet will be on Feb. 22 after the trade deadline.

2: Bucks at Knicks, Dec. 25 on ESPN

The 2023 Christmas Day slate will kick off with the Knicks and Bucks at Madison Square Garden, the third straight year New York has played on the holiday. New York will look to avenge its Dec. 25, 2018, 109-95 loss to Milwaukee.

Whether the NBA intended to do so or not, the league took away some of the hype from the Christmas Day game by making it the <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2023/08/18/5-most-important-national-tv-games-new-york-knicks-schedule/2/"https://dailyknicks.com/2023/08/17/nba-tries-erase-hype-knicks-christmas-day-game-schedule-blunder/">second half of a two-game series. The Bucks will also face the Knicks at the Garden on Dec. 23. That doesn’t mean MSG will be any less electric for the holiday game between two top teams in the East, though.

Giannis Antetokounmpo might not be the top name on New York’s trade radar, but he’s eligible to sign an extension this offseason and has yet to do so. Milwaukee suffered an ugly first-round exit to Miami in the playoffs last season, and if the Bucks cannot capitalize on their regular season success in 2023-24, Antetokounmpo hitting the trade market next summer wouldn’t be a shock.

If that were to happen and the Knicks still hadn’t made their big move, expect New York’s front office to run to the phone.

Before we start dreaming too much about Giannis one day calling The Big Apple home, let’s focus on the Knicks not only winning on Dec. 25 but going 2-0 in the two-game series.
