2: Immanuel Quickley
The Knicks picked up Immanuel Quickley’s fourth-year option and he’s eligible to sign an extension in the offseason. However, there’s a possibility that he may not be in New York this summer based on trade reports.
It’s been reported that the Knicks have been listening to trade calls for Quickley and are looking to get a first-round pick back in a potential deal. Most recently, Fred Katz of The Athletic reported (subscription required) that New York is willing to attach either Quickley or Reddish to Fournier in a trade, which is something that has understandably upset fans.
Fournier’s poor play and contract make things harder on the Knicks in trade talks, although they’re the only ones to blame after signing him to a four-year, $78 million deal ahead of the 2021-22 season. If Quickley — the No. 25 pick in 2020 — is sent packing with Fournier, that’d be an awful decision by the front office.
Given that Derrick Rose isn’t in Thibodeau’s nine-man rotation and has been linked to the Mavericks, the Knicks need to keep Quickley now that he’s finally been granted more playing time and doesn’t have to play behind veterans.
a disgruntled star could become available ahead of the deadline, but regardless, expect New York to make some moves.

3 players that Knicks fans don’t want to see traded as rumors heat up

3: Cam Reddish

Cam Reddish was pushed out of Tom Thibodeau’s nine-man rotation after the team’s loss to the Mavericks last weekend. Soon after, it was reported by <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/12/10/3-knicks-players-fans-want-leave-trade-toppin-quickley-reddish/2/"https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/knicks/ny-cam-reddish-trade-request-20221207-bnuvbntxrvfwllxn4qnsfr7iwe-story.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Stefan Bondy of New York Daily News that Reddish’s representatives were working with the Knicks <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/12/10/3-knicks-players-fans-want-leave-trade-toppin-quickley-reddish/2/"https://dailyknicks.com/2022/12/07/cam-reddish-trade-report-ironically-drops-hawks-visit-knicks/">on a trade. Reddish has since said that he didn’t request a trade, but New York dealing him would make sense.

Reddish will become a restricted free agent over the summer after the Knicks decided to <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/12/10/3-knicks-players-fans-want-leave-trade-toppin-quickley-reddish/2/"https://dailyknicks.com/2022/11/16/knicks-right-call-offseason-handling-cam-reddish/">not extend him before the season. Given that it doesn’t seem that New York is going to pay him, it would be best to part ways with him before the Feb. 9 deadline.

However, Reddish hasn’t really gotten a fair shake since the Knicks traded for him last January. He’s struggled to solidify a spot in Thibodeau’s rotation, and fans thought that had changed once he entered the starting lineup in Fournier’s place. Reddish did well, especially defensively, but he then suffered a groin injury that kept him sidelined for a couple of games. His last game against the Mavericks wasn’t anything to write home about, but it’s still odd that Reddish has been removed from the rotation entirely.

Reddish hasn’t gotten the opportunity that fans hoped he would in New York, so it will be tough to see him leave if he is traded.

1: Obi Toppin

Obi Toppin hasn’t come up in any trade reports so far during the season and although Julius Randle has been playing well, trading the No. 8 pick in the 2020 draft would cause Knicks Twitter to crumble.

Toppin was dealt a tough blow earlier this week when he<a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/12/10/3-knicks-players-fans-want-leave-trade-toppin-quickley-reddish/2/"https://dailyknicks.com/2022/12/08/knicks-obi-toppin-suffers-tough-blow-knee-injury-update/"> injured his knee in the Knicks’ win over the Hawks. An MRI revealed that he suffered a non-displaced fracture in his right fibula and he’ll be re-evaluated in a few weeks. An injury is never good news but with Toppin still fighting for an increased role in Thibodeau’s rotation, him being sidelined will only make it harder for him once he returns.

Similar to Cam, Obi hasn’t been treated fairly by Thibs when it comes to playing time and use. Toppin is a more consistent player than Reddish, but that hasn’t mattered to Thibodeau. Playing time should be dictated by how well a player performs, but in Toppin’s case, it hasn’t mattered.

A Toppin trade would be difficult for Knicks fans to accept, but a trade would actually benefit him because he likely wouldn’t be stashed on the bench on his new team. Hopefully, things won’t come to that, though.

Right now, the hope should be that Obi will be able to return to the lineup in a few weeks because as <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/12/10/3-knicks-players-fans-want-leave-trade-toppin-quickley-reddish/2/"https://twitter.com/NYPost_Brazille/status/1601254763651559424" target="_blank" rel="noopener">RJ Barrett said, the team will miss his energy.
