Derrick Rose – Milwaukee Bucks
It was a strange season for Derrick Rose. The former MVP was shelved for most of the season as the Knicks relied heavily on their youth. Rose garnered some trade interest at the 2023 deadline, but New York ultimately decided to keep him.
Now, Rose has a $15.6 million club option for next season, which the team declined on Saturday. He’s set to enter free agency and the Milwaukee Bucks could show some interest in the veteran point guard.
The Bucks were one of the teams who expressed interest in adding Rose (subscription required) at the deadline this past season. It would make sense for the Bucks to consider adding Rose, given their current roster construction. Jrue Holiday and Jevon Carter are their point guards, but neither are pure point guards; they’re more so combo guards. The Bucks would benefit from adding a pure point guard, and the front office seemingly agrees, if their past interest in Rose says anything.
It likely would not cost the Bucks a ton to bring him in, which is important, given their limited spending money. They could offer the guard a nice role on a team at the forefront of title contention. After spending most of last season sidelined, an opportunity may very well be what Rose wants when deciding his next destination, if it comes to that.
glimpses of what he could be</a>, especially defensively. At just 22 years old, McBride is incredibly young and has not reached anywhere near his full potential.</p>
<p>Keeping him around in a guard rotation that is not short on talent whatsoever could help his development and increase his chances of becoming a quality rotational player down the line.</p>
<p>In short, this should be a quick and easy decision for New York’s front office. It would undoubtedly be surprising if they let the former second-round pick go after declining such a team-friendly deal for next season.</p>

<h2>Josh Hart – New York Knicks</h2>
<p>Josh Hart was an excellent trade deadline acquisition for the Knicks, as the shooting guard played extremely well, having cemented himself as a key piece for this team. Now, Hart has the option to test NBA free agency if he declines his $12.9 million player option, which he told Bleacher Report’s Taylor Rooks he plans to do.</p>
<p>While Hart will very likely test the market, the Knicks should not hold back when it comes to <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2023/06/25/predicting-where-each-new-york-knicks-free-agent-play-2023-24-hart-rose/3/"https://dailyknicks.com/2023/06/12/predicting-contract-knicks-josh-hart-sign-free-agency/">giving the two guard a raise</a> to stick around. Hart himself made it clear to Rooks that he wants to stay in New York, so the mutual interest is clearly there.</p>
<p>Just about every single team in the league would love to have Hart. He brings infinite amounts of energy to the court whenever he plays, always hustling for loose balls and taking on a tough defensive assignment.</p>
<p>Hart is a perfect fit alongside New York’s other key pieces, especially Jalen Brunson. Not only are they a good on-court fit, but the two also attended college together, so they are close in that regard. It makes all the sense in the NBA world for the Knicks to keep the franchise’s newest fan-favorite player.</p>
<p>According to <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2023/06/25/predicting-where-each-new-york-knicks-free-agent-play-2023-24-hart-rose/3/"https://theathletic.com/4590137/2023/06/08/nba-top-free-agents-kyrie-irving-james-harden/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Athletic’s John Hollinger</a> (subscription required), Hart’s next deal could see him earn around $20 million annually over three or four years. Keeping the guard will not be cheap, but it’s absolutely the right move for New York.</p>
