The 2022 NBA Draft Lottery is almost here and the New York Knicks are hours away from learning where they’ll be picking in June. New York has the 11th-best lottery odds entering the evening so any pick above that would be considered a win.

The Knicks have a 2% chance to get the No. 1 overall pick, which is something that hasn’t happened for New York since 1985. Not that fans need the reminder, but yes, it’s been that long.

If the Knicks somehow get lucky enough to get a pick in the top 4, that in itself would be incredible, especially since the organization’s last top 4 pick was RJ Barrett, who was the No. 3 overall pick in 2019.

New York’s gotten the short end of the stick multiple times in recent years when it comes to the draft, but for now, let’s focus on the scenarios that fans should be rooting for to happen.

3 2022 NBA Draft Lottery results that’d benefit the New York Knicks

3: Higher pick than any other Eastern Conference team

The Orlando Magic (52.1%), Detroit Pistons (52.1%), Indiana Pacers (52.1%), and the Washington Wizards (13.9%) all have better odds than the Knicks at a top-4 selection. Both Orlando and Detroit have a 14% chance to get the No. 1 overall pick, along with the Houston Rockets, who obviously aren’t part of the Eastern Conference.

Based on those odds, New York’s chances of having the best draft pick might be very slim, but that doesn’t mean that it’s impossible. Although the Knicks might not have the best pick in the East, they’ll have the best pick in the Atlantic Division.

But if New York’s 2% odds of getting the top selection in the draft ends up paying off, every other team in the league will be below the Knicks. If that were to happen, and we all know that’s a long shot, Leon Rose would have a prime opportunity to maybe get more than zero votes for next year’s NBA Executive of the Year honor.
