The Knicks’ lone trade deadline move was sending Cam Reddish, Svi Mykhailiuk, Ryan Arcidiacono, and a protected first-round pick to the Trail Blazers in exchange for Josh Hart. So far, that move has already turned out to be a great one for New York. Hart is 9-1 in the games that he’s played with New York.
However, there is a question mark about Hart’s future. He has a $12.96 million player option for 2023-24 that he’s expected to opt out of in favor of a larger contract. Based on how he’s been playing, he’s going to draw interest from opposing teams. But when trading for Hart, New York’s front office was well aware of his contract situation. He’s proven that he would be a great long-term fit with the Knicks, too.
Hart is averaging 11.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.1 steals in 10 games for the Knicks while shooting 61.5% from the field and 60.9% from three. There’s still a lot of basketball left to be played this season, but he’s on the right track to getting a new contract with the Knicks.
could be Toppin’s last in New York.

It’s hard to do a whole lot when you’re receiving an average of 14.6 minutes per night. Unless Toppin is given a larger role and goes on an absolute tear similar to what Immanuel Quickley has been doing, there seems to be no future for him with the Knicks. There’s still a lot of basketball left to be played this season, so let’s see what Toppin will be able to accomplish.

wants to remain in New York, so it’s not as if he’s looking to go elsewhere. After hopping around to three teams since being drafted in 2017, he’s hoping to stay with his fourth team. It helps that he gets to play alongside his former Villanova teammate and good friend Jalen Brunson.

incredible 38-point performance against the Celtics on Sunday, he became the frontrunner to win NBA Sixth Man of the Year.

Similar to Toppin, the Knicks picked up Quickley’s fourth-year option earlier this season. Because of the way that he’s been playing, there have been discussions about whether or not the team will extend him this summer. ESPN’s <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2023/03/09/3-knicks-players-future-new-york-quickley-hart-toppin/2/"https://nypost.com/2023/03/06/knicks-face-difficult-decision-to-lock-up-immanuel-quickley/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bobby Marks said that he doesn’t think that extending IQ on July 1 will be a priority for New York. He did say that he thinks a “reasonable” extension would be similar to the four-year, $95 million extension that the Hawks gave De’Andre Hunter.

At the young age of 23, Quickley has already proven that he should be part of New York’s future. If it weren’t for him, the Knicks wouldn’t have won nine games in a row that helped propel them up to No. 5 in the East. He’s been the team’s spark plug.

With Josh Hart potentially becoming a free agent, New York’s front office is going to have a few tough decisions to make during the offseason. Immanuel Quickley is a key part of the Knicks’ future, though, and Leon Rose knows that.
