3 Evan Fournier trades the Knicks must consider this offseason

With the offseason finally underway, there are a few New York Knicks players who are likely to not return for the 2023-24 season. One Knick who even himself believes that he will be gone is Evan Fournier.

This is not surprising considering that he was taken out of the rotation this season and is set to make $18 million next season and has a team option for the 2024-25 season. This means that whatever team trades for him is essentially getting Fournier on a one-year deal, making it much easier to move on from him.

Fournier obviously doesn’t have much value, but he can easily be used as salary filler in a much larger deal. That, or the Knicks can just ship him off for little-to-nothing in order to get off of his contract.

Trade #3: Sending Fournier and a young forward to the Pacers

This is a deal that we have proposed in the past and is honestly one the Knicks should consider if they wish to push closer to contention next season.

Knicks Get
Buddy Hield
Pacers Get
Evan Fournier
Obi Toppin
2024 first-round pick via. DAL

In this trade, the Knicks would be getting one of the top three-point shooters in the league. While he may not be great at much else, that level of production from behind the arc is something the Knicks desperately need to add to their offense.

In 2022-23, the Knicks ranked 19th in three-point percentage and were one of the worst teams in the playoffs in that area. It has become clear in recent seasons that they need a consistent three-point threat and Hield would be exactly that.

While Hield has one year left on his current deal, which would make things slightly more difficult, the Knicks could likely re-sign him for close to what Fournier is currently making or slightly more. Fans would love to keep Toppin around, but it is obvious that he isn’t a good fit in the Knicks’ offense and should be replaced by someone who is more consistent.
