Regardless of whether or not Chris Paul would fit with the Knicks, why would he want to join the team? With all due respect to what the Knicks are trying to do, it’s very clear that Paul will be looking to join a championship-contending team (subscription required). The Knicks may be a top team in the East, but several teams are likely looking to add Paul to their roster.
Compared to teams like the Lakers, Bucks, Clippers, or even a return to the Suns, why would Paul choose the Knicks? Not only are the Knicks significantly worse than all of the teams listed, but Paul would likely take on a much smaller role in New York than he would with other teams.
Before the news came out that he could be waived, Paul made it clear that he wanted to contend for a championship. While nothing in the NBA is guaranteed, it almost seems like Paul’s dreams of a ring would be dead if he signed with New York.
There are so many reasons going against Paul signing with the Knicks that it almost seems impossible for him to sign with the team. It would be fun to watch a future Hall of Famer in MSG, but at the end of the day, things aren’t adding up for CP3 to join the Knicks.
don’t need to waste money on an aging point guard right now. There are far more pressing concerns than the team’s guard depth. Brunson and Immanuel Quickley do more than enough to maintain both their spots. They could both play the two-guard with ease, but it’s not worth changing the Knicks’ system and rotation for a player of Paul’s capabilities.

Paul is still pretty decent for his age. However, he just wouldn’t fit with what the Knicks are trying to put on the floor on a nightly basis.

blowing it in the postseason, so why add Chris Paul to the roster to do the same thing?

Don’t get me wrong, historically, Paul is a great player in the regular season, one of the best ever. However, you can’t ignore the number of times he has consistently come up short when it matters most. Whether it be the ever-so-disappointing Lob City Clippers team, or his failure to win a championship against the Bucks in 2021, Paul has almost always failed when it mattered most.

Even when Paul doesn’t come up short in the playoffs, his consistent injuries have hampered any chance he’s had to win a championship in previous seasons. Paul has gotten worse almost every season since 2019 so there aren’t many reasons to think he’d magically improve in the playoffs.

Paul is still a good player and would probably make the Knicks better. However, adding him to the roster wouldn’t move the needle enough to make the Knicks a championship-contending team. It doesn’t make much sense for either side to come together on a deal.
