2: Gary Trent Jr.
Gary Trent Jr. has been popping up in more trade rumors as of late. According to Marc Stein (subscription required), Trent is “undeniably” available ahead of the deadline. The 23-year-old (soon to be 24) guard is making $17.3 million this season and has a $18.6 million player option in 2023-24. While the path that the Raptors will take leading up to Feb. 9 is still unknown, Trent appears to be the most likeliest Toronto player to be dealt.
Trent is averaging a career-high 18.5 points and is shooting 44.3 percent from the floor and 36.7 percent from deep. One of the Raptors’ main flaws is their lack of shooting, so it wouldn’t be in their best interest to part ways with Trent. However, there’s also the risk that he could walk in the offseason and leave Toronto with nothing.
With the Knicks needing to trade Evan Fournier, Trent should be a player that New York’s front office inquires about if that hasn’t been done already. There’s no doubt that Trent would be a big upgrade over Fournier and he fits New York’s younger timeline. Trent spent one season at Duke in 2017-18 before declaring for the draft, so he left right before RJ Barrett’s single season as a Blue Devil.
Out of the three players on this list, odds are that Gary Trent Jr. has the highest percentage to be traded between now and the deadline.
decisions to make. With players like Cam Reddish and Derrick Rose seemingly already out the door, the Knicks could add a new player or two to the roster as well.

Reports about players that New York has inquired about have been floating around and there’s even been a rumor that the Knicks and Pacers have engaged in trade talks about Obi Toppin. Luckily, Feb. 9 is around the corner so unlike the summer when fans waited for what felt like forever to learn where Donovan Mitchell would end up, the team’s trade deadline decisions will soon be known.

The Atlantic Division could be one of the more active decisions leading up to the deadline, especially with the Raptors being a team to watch. With New York set to host Toronto tonight for the second time this season, let’s take a look at three Raptors players that the Knicks could trade for.

3 Raptors players Knicks could trade for ahead of Feb. 9 deadline

3. Pascal Siakam

Even if the Raptors decide to shake up the trade market ahead of the deadline, <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2023/01/16/3-raptors-players-knicks-target-trade-deadline-siakam-trent-anunoby/2/"https://raptorsrapture.com/2023/01/10/pascal-siakam-great-quote-raptors-deadline-chatter/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pascal Siakam should be safe. And if he is made available, Toronto would get a haul in exchange for him and New York has what it would take to get a deal done.

Siakam is in the midst of another All-NBA season and he could (and should) be named an All-Star for the first time. Along with the career-high 52 points that he dropped on the Knicks in December, he’s averaging 25.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.5 assists and is shooting 47.4 percent from the field. Siakam will be an unrestricted free agent in 2024. He’s making $35.5 million this season and will make $37.9 million in 2023-24.

There’s no doubt that the 28-year-old is having the best season of his seven-year career, but given Toronto’s struggles, it’s being wasted. As you can see by his assist average, Siakam’s improved as a playmaker. He gets it done on both ends of the floor as he’s a great defender and is the Raptors’ top scorer.

Pascal Siakam would be an incredible addition to the Knicks, but he wouldn’t come cheap if Masai Ujiri did come to the conclusion that trading him would be best for Toronto. He’s the unlikeliest trade target on this list, but you can bet that New York’s front office (along with others) is closely paying attention to what’s unfolding in Toronto.

1: OG Anunoby

In December, SNY’s Ian Begley <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2023/01/16/3-raptors-players-knicks-target-trade-deadline-siakam-trent-anunoby/2/"https://sny.tv/articles/julius-randle-knicks-pondered-shakeup" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported that the Knicks had reached out to the Raptors about OG Anunoby before New York went on to win eight straight games. Begley wrote that it’s a trade “that would come at a significant cost — it’s not a move you make unless you know you have to shake up your roster.”

Although the Knicks are in a different place than they were when they initially reached out about Anunoby weeks ago, he could very well be moved ahead of the deadline because of the Raptors’ shaky play. However, ESPN’s Zach Lowe has said that if Anunoby is traded, the package that Toronto would receive for him would likely be similar to what Utah got in return for Donovan Mitchell.

The Knicks didn’t go all in for Mitchell, so why would they do so for Anunoby? If the Raptors do listen to offers and set the bar as high as Danny Ainge did for Mitchell, that should in theory be enough to <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2023/01/16/3-raptors-players-knicks-target-trade-deadline-siakam-trent-anunoby/2/"https://dailyknicks.com/2023/01/06/latest-og-anunoby-raptors-trade-rumor-drive-knicks-away/">keep New York away. Because New York has the draft assets to get a deal done for a star, the Knicks are a team to watch.

Anunoby has a $19.9 million player option in 2024-25 that if he were to deny, he’d hit free agency the offseason before. Like Siakam, Anunoby’s a good defender although his efficiency has taken a dip. He’s still averaging a career-best 18.3 points on 46.9 percent shooting from the field and 36.8 percent shooting from three to go with 5.9 rebounds, 2.2 steals, and 2.1 assists.

The question is whether or not the Raptors will be sellers at the deadline. If that’s the path that Ujiri decides to take, things could get very interesting.
