The 2022 NFL season officially began on Thursday night when the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams faced off at SoFi Stadium, but today, the New York Giants and the New York Jets will begin their seasons. New York Knicks fans, the 2022-23 NBA season might not be here yet, but in the meantime, you can (hopefully) enjoy some football.
There are Knicks fans all over the globe, and while there are certainly fans that don’t pull for either the Giants or Jets, the majority do. Some Knicks fans pull for the Bills, who are ironically enough the only team to actually play in New York, but real New Yorkers know that the debate comes down to the Giants vs. Jets.
It’s been 10 years since the Giants beat Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI, and over 50 years since the Jets beat the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III. Neither team has given fans much to cheer for, but the tides are starting to turn. The same can be said for the Knicks, too. Things are looking up for New York sports fans.
And while we’re on the topic of the Giants/Jets and the Knicks, let’s have some fun and take a look at three current Knicks players that would thrive in the NFL.
3 Knicks players that would star for the Giants/Jets in the NFL
3: Feron Hunt
Feron Hunt appeared in only two games for New York in the 2021-22 season, but as a two-way player, he put on a show with the Westchester Knicks.
He carried that show over to the 2022 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, where he impressed Knicks fans (and James Wiseman) with his insane athleticism.
The forward would put on a show on the gridiron, although at six-foot-eight he would certainly stand out. Hunt would be taller than the average wide receiver, but his speed would make him a fit for that position. And hey, maybe he’d be able to help Daniel Jones in his “prove it” season with the Giants, especially given Kenny Golladay’s struggles.
If he were to bulk up, Hunt might be able to star as a defensive end, but perhaps that job should be left to Jets’ Carl Lawson.
Knicks fans shouldn’t want to think about the possibility of Hunt starring for the Giants or Jets because he hasn’t even gotten the chance to prove himself on the court at Madison Square Garden. But man, it’s fun to imagine Hunt at MetLife.

<h3>2: Obi Toppin</h3>
<p>Obi Toppin on the football field would be the definition of entertainment. Knicks fans have seen the way that he flies around the court for the Knicks, whether it’s <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/09/11/3-knicks-players-shine-nfl-giants-jets/"https://nypost.com/2022/02/19/knicks-obi-toppin-wins-nba-slam-dunk-contest/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">for a dunk</a> or a rejection.</p>
<p>Like Hunt, Toppin would be tall for a wide receiver at six-foot-nine, but his hops and seven-foot-two wing span would probably result in several touchdowns. And better yet, Obi’s touchdown celebrations would be top-tier.</p>
<p>Would Obi help bring out the version of Danny Dimes that Giants fans are hoping to see? Or better yet, would he be able to form a connection with Joe Flacco? With Zach Wilson’s knee injury keeping him out until at least Week 4, 37-year-old Flacco will be leading the Jets. Flacco’s arm may not be what it once was, but with Obi running down the field (like he does in transition with the Knicks), the Jets would be even more exciting to watch.</p>
<p>We’ve seen what Obi would look like on <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/09/11/3-knicks-players-shine-nfl-giants-jets/"https://twitter.com/sny_knicks/status/1564756148842110976" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the baseball diamond</a>, but it’s time for him to complete the trifecta on the football field. Knowing Tom Thibodeau, he’d find a way <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/09/11/3-knicks-players-shine-nfl-giants-jets/"https://dailyknicks.com/2022/03/24/obi-toppin-success-previous-two-new-york-knicks-starts-tom-thibodeau-flaw/">to limit Toppin’s minutes</a> at MetLife, though…</p>

<h3>1: Julius Randle</h3>
<p>The Knicks fanbase has mixed opinions about Julius Randle. Some are desperately waiting for the notification that <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/09/11/3-knicks-players-shine-nfl-giants-jets/"https://dailyknicks.com/2022/09/04/julius-randle-trades-knicks-donovan-mitchell-news/">he’s been traded</a>, and then there are the ones who believe that he will have a <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/09/11/3-knicks-players-shine-nfl-giants-jets/"https://dailyknicks.com/2022/09/03/new-york-knicks-hot-start-propel-julius-randle-star/">bounce-back season</a> in 2022-23. Regardless of what you may think, there’s no arguing that out of all the players on New York’s roster, he’d be the one to perform the best in the NFL.</p>
<p>Randle’s no stranger to bully ball, and he’d be able to carry that same energy over to MetLife on defense.</p>

<p>Picture Randle plowing through opposing teams’ offensive lines in the same way that he does to opposing players in the paint. Maybe the same Knicks fans that have booed Randle at MSG would do the opposite in East Rutherford. If Randle had been drafted by the Giants or Jets in 2014 instead of the Lakers, perhaps he’d be known now as a defensive star in the NFL.</p>
<p>Randle’s listed <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/09/11/3-knicks-players-shine-nfl-giants-jets/"https://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/3064514/julius-randle" target="_blank" rel="noopener">at 250 pounds</a>, but based on the photos/videos of him <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/09/11/3-knicks-players-shine-nfl-giants-jets/"https://dailyknicks.com/2022/06/07/julius-randle-offseason-workout-photo-sparks-huge-response-knicks-twitter/">from the offseason</a>, he looks like a completely different player than he was last year. Hopefully, instead of being a terror to NFL offenses, he’ll be able to remind Knicks fans why he was voted as an All-Star a season ago.</p>
<p>Kick back and enjoy the first NFL Sunday of the 2022 season, Knicks fans, but in a little over five weeks, it’ll finally be time to watch New York take on Memphis in the 2022-23 season opener.</p>
