As much as it pains me to say it, this has been a rather rough season for RJ Barrett so far. Obviously, he has been sick the last three or so games, however, that is no excuse for the way in which he has played.
Barrett has had plenty of great moments this season, but the issues surrounding his consistency and efficiency have not gotten much better. Through 16 games, Barrett is averaging 18.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 39.5% from the field and 25.0% from three.
The most disappointing part of Barrett’s game this season has without a doubt been his three-point shooting. In his last three games, Barrett is 1-20 from behind the arc, while he has been sick, if it is this bad, he needs to sit out.
I admire Barrett’s courage and toughness to play while sick, but he must learn when it is best to sit, as he has been hurting the Knicks in recent games. Tom Thibodeau has been giving him a rather ridiculous amount of minutes during this time, especially in their most recent matchup against the Nuggets.
Regardless, Barrett must be better, both his offense and defense have been rather disappointing this season. The team can only go so far through Julius Randle and Jalen Brunson, so they truly need Barrett at his best.
still not producing enough when he is on the floor.

Rose is currently playing the least amount of minutes per game of his entire career so far which could open up the door for a potential trade. Normally, I’d be against trading Rose, however, it seems as if there is simply no room in the rotation for him to get consistent minutes anymore.

This, alongside the solid play of Immanuel Quickley and the return of Quentin Grimes, could force the front office’s hand to potentially trade Rose to a better situation.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out as the season goes on. I wish nothing but the best for Rose but if he does not improve his play soon, he may be forced out of the rotation once Grimes is ready to play again.

finally pulled him from the rotation.

Not only has Fournier been a complete liability defensively, but his shots haven’t even been falling, making for a practically useless player when he is on the floor.

On the season, Fournier is averaging 6.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 34.4% from the field and 33.3% from three.

Last season, the only redeeming quality about Fournier’s game was that he was one of the best three-point shooters in the league, shooting 38.9% from behind the arc on 7.7 attempts per game. However, considering his 33.3% clip this season on 4.4 attempts per game, I think it’s safe to say he doesn’t play a role on this team anymore.

In a similar fashion to Rose, <a href=https://dailyknicks.com/2022/11/20/3-knicks-players-disappointments-start-season/3/"https://dailyknicks.com/2022/11/06/3-trades-knicks-make-improve-roster-amid-shaky-start/">a trade could possibly be in the future for Fournier. Honestly, it is a lot more likely that we see Fournier shipped off before Rose, as there were already plenty of trade rumors before his disappointing play.

Fournier could be of some value to a contending team that will not need him to play big minutes, especially if he can regain his shot. Regardless, he has no room on the Knicks anymore, as Grimes already does everything Fournier can and more.
