Knicks News: Bradley Beal-New York trade idea, Jalen Brunson drug test

With Bradley Beal and the Wizards working together on going through trade offers, the New York Knicks have emerged as a landing spot for the three-time All-Star. The 29-year-old has a no-trade clause in his contract that allows him to veto any deal before it goes through.

According to SNY’s Ian Begley, New York discussed the possibility of a Beal offseason trade during the 2022-23 season. Beal has spent his entire 11-year career in D.C., but depending on what direction Washington wants to take this offseason, he could be on a new team this summer. Shams Charania reported that the Heat are expected to be “significant suitors” for Beal and that the Bucks could be in the running for the guard as well.

ESPN’s Bobby Marks put together a Knicks-Wizards Bradley Beal trade idea:

Knicks Get
Bradley Beal
Wizards Get
Evan Fournier
Mitchell Robinson
Derrick Rose
2024 first-round pick via WAS, 2025 top-14 protected first-round pick

Regardless of how Knicks fans feel about Beal playing in NYC, that’s a deal that New York would likely do in a heartbeat. The only player of value that the Knicks would be giving up in that scenario is Mitchell Robinson, who would have to be replaced either on the trade market or in free agency. Evan Fournier and Derrick Rose are both expected to be on new teams in time for the 2023-24 season anyways.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst did report that Beal could come at a bargain value for interested teams, which is what the above trade would be for the Knicks. The question is whether or not the Wizards would accept that deal, and that doesn’t seem likely.

In other news, Jalen Brunson was drug tested on Tuesday, the morning after the 2022-23 season came to an end. The NBA wasted no time in testing New York’s star point guard that put together a career year.
