What does Immanuel Quickley’s path to a larger role look like?

The New York Knicks’ revamped roster could see third-year guard Immanuel Quickley propelled into a larger role. A recent report from SNY’s Ian Begley stated that there is some momentum within the organization for Quickley to gain a larger role with the team. The article stated:

“…there is an expectation that Immanuel Quickley will get an increased role early on in 2022-23, per people familiar with the matter. Quickley averaged 27.5 minutes per game after the All-Star break. He had several strong outings as a playmaker in that time frame and several solid shooting stretches.”

There has been a ton of back and forth between Knicks fans and the front office on the distribution of playing time on the roster. Between head coach Tom Thibodeau and the numerous different voices within the front office, there has been plenty of division on who deserves playing time and which lineups are optimal for winning — How do we blend “winning culture” with development?

As some of these Knicks players enter their second, third, and even fourth years in the league, maybe it’s time to throw them into the fire. After all, we saw some impressive stretches from players like Quickley and Obi Toppin when they got significant run at the end of the season.

When it comes to Quickley in particular, his perimeter defense, shooting, and secondary playmaking could all be amplified if given a larger role. The question is, how would he get increased minutes in this muddy rotation?
