Immanuel Quickley soaring in latest odds to win Sixth Man of the Year

Finally, the world was able to see just how good Immanuel Quickley has been for the New York Knicks this season.

The third-year guard stepped into the starting lineup for an injured Jalen Brunson on Sunday night and absolutely carried the Knicks in crunch time with a 38-point, eight-rebound, seven-assist, four-steal performance in 55 minutes (!!) in New York’s double overtime win over the Boston Celtics.

Subsequently, Quickley made one of the largest jumps you’ll see in the futures market, moving to a -170 favorite to win the league’s Sixth Man of the Year Award.

NBA Sixth Man of the Year odds

How crazy is this jump for Quickley?

Well, back on Feb. 24, he was +20000 (yes, you read that right) to win the league’s Sixth Man of the Year Award. At those odds, I felt that he was totally undervalued.

Turns out, my hunch was right. Quickley has shot up the odds board over the past two weeks, peaking at this -170 price we have now. He has surpassed Malcolm Brogdon and the injured Normal Powell as the favorite.

Obviously, Quickley is going to need to finish the season strong to win the award, but his numbers have absolutely nuts dating back to start of December (43 games). Over that stretch, Quickley is averaging 15.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game while shooting 47.3 percent from the field and 38.9 percent from 3-point range.

That’s not even mentioning his defense, which has come a long way since he was drafted 25th overall in the 2020 NBA Draft. Quickley is arguably the Knicks’ best on-ball defender, and he has been a fixture in Tom Thibodeau’s crunch time lineups.

As Knicks fans, we’ve seen this all year. After Brunson and Julius Randle, Quickley has been the Knicks’ third most valuable player this season.

The national stage finally got a look last night, when Quickley scored seven straight in double overtime to put the Knicks ahead for good against Boston.

The betting market has finally reacted to Quickley’s play, leaving very little value left in his odds, compared to where yours truly bet him just two weeks ago.

However, Knicks fans have to love seeing Quickley get the recognition he deserves. Hopefully, the Knicks see it too and reward him with a much-deserved contract extension this coming offseason.
